Annual Underwriting Seminar 19th - 20th June 2008 Latimer Conference Centre, Chesham, Bucks The Under 35’s Committee is proud to announce the dates for it’s 16th annual Underwriting Seminar. The Seminar is the cornerstone of our educational programme and provides an opportunity for our members to learn the basics of reinsurance underwriting. The seminar would benefit those requiring a greater understanding of the practical issues surrounding the underwriting of property and casualty risk, without of course forgetting the need to enjoy ourselves at the same time. The Underwriting Seminar's main priority is the development of the techniques and skills of reinsurance underwriting, both in theory and in practice. Topics covered include elements of pricing such as burning cost using chain ladder, inflation and IBNR. Exposure rating using loss distribution and Pareto. The course is residential lasting 2 days, half taught in a lecture format with worked examples and half as an in-depth team based case study, applying the techniques learnt from the lecture topics. It is anticipated that delegates will have a limited knowledge of the mechanics of reinsurance but that their current job description may come from any sector of the market with varying degrees of experience in the insurance industry. The course is an excellent opportunity for budding underwriters and intermediaries who wish to improve their technical skills and those whose day to day jobs may not include underwriting but require an understanding of the job of an underwriter to prosper (lawyers, accountants, wording technicians, actuaries and consultants have all attended past courses). In addition to these benefits the course is an invaluable opportunity to meet and interact with other reinsurance professionals from a wide variety of business areas. It allows members the unique opportunity to learn from practicing underwriters who use the skills taught during the course on a day to day basis and places a particular emphasis on combining theory with practice. Places are reserved strictly according to the Committees selection process in order to achieve a broad balance of experience and background therefore acknowledgement of this email does not confirm attendance. The cost, including the 2 day course, full board and overnight accommodation is £450. For further details or to please contact the following:- Rebecca James on rebacca.james@catlin.com or 020 7458 5794. The Committee looks forward to seeing you there.
